The first-ever St. Mary Casino Night Fundraiser will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, October 22, in the Parish Hall. Three children from St. Mary have qualified for the Illinois Knights of Columbus Free Throw Challenge state finals, which will be held Sunday, April 24 at St. Anthony High School in Effingham. All three earned state finals berths by winning regional championships at St. John Neumann in St. Charles on March 26.
St. Mary’s regional champions were:
Bradley, Natalie and Logan also captured two lower-level age division titles en route to their regional championships. They won the opening round at Northwestern Medicine Health and Fitness Center in Huntley on Jan. 8, and the district competition at St. Margaret Mary in Algonquin on Jan. 23.
Two others from St. Mary finished second in the regional competition: Kristen Adam (13-year-old girl) and Zach Urbaszewski (14-year-old boy). Zach won the two rounds leading up to the regional, while Kristen won the district title.
Two boys won council and district titles, but were unable to attend the regional competition: Arda Oner (age 10) and Kevin Pfaff (age 11). Also, Alyssa Borzych (13-year-old girl) and Logan McCabe (13-year-old boy) won council championships but were not able to attend the district round.
